What I’ve Learned From Balancing Work, Freelancing and Learning

Since finishing college, I’ve found myself balancing several different things at once. I’m working, freelancing, continuing to learn independently and, of course, trying to make time for life outside of work.

I’m still figuring out what works for me, but I’ve already learned a few things.

You can’t do everything at once. There are only so many hours in a day, and sometimes something has to wait. I’ve learned that postponing something doesn’t mean I’ve given up on it.

Organisation makes a difference. Keeping track of my commitments and planning what needs doing helps me avoid feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes even a simple list can make a busy week feel much more manageable.

Learning doesn’t stop when college does. Finishing my T-Level wasn’t the end of my education. I’ve continued exploring subjects I’m interested in and developing skills that I want to use in the future.

Different experiences teach you different things. My employment, internships and freelancing have all taught me something different. Not every skill I’ve gained has come from a classroom, and some of the most useful lessons have come from simply doing the work.

Rest matters too. It’s easy to think that every spare moment should be productive, but that’s not realistic. Reading, baking, watching a film or simply having time to switch off is part of maintaining a healthy balance.

Most importantly, I’ve learned that balance doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly. Some weeks will be busier than others, plans will change and occasionally something won’t get done.
